Proof of reserves is a method for demonstrating that an entity controls certain assets at a point in time. It can improve transparency but is not the same as a complete financial audit.
Important limitations
A reserve snapshot may not reveal all liabilities, asset encumbrances, related-party obligations, or controls. Assets can also move after the snapshot.
A stronger transparency package
Users should look for liability coverage, independent assurance, frequent updates, clear wallet ownership, governance disclosures, and information about custody and risk controls.
